PROS

  1. Outstanding still-image quality from the 12.2MP main camera sensor.
  2. High-quality 6.3-inch QHD+ OLED screen with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate.
  3. Extremely fast and secure 3D face unlock, acting as a true competitor to Apple’s Face ID.
  4. Extremely clean "stock" Android experience with no bloatware.
  5. Thoughtful and useful software additions like the, at the time, new Google Recorder app.
  6. Excellent, loud, and clear stereo speakers that do not distort at high volume.
  7. Premium, durable build quality featuring a matte glass back that resists fingerprints.
  8. Squeezable edges (Active Edge) allowing for easy, instant summoning of the Google Assistant.
  9. Capable 2x optical telephoto lens that works well for portrait shots and zoom.
  10. Astrophotography mode enables impressive, long-exposure shots of the night sky.

CONS

  1. Incredibly weak and disappointing battery life that struggles to last a full day.
  2. No ultra-wide-angle lens on the rear, a significant omission compared to competitors.
  3. Slow 18W wired charging speed compared to competitors, which often surpassed 40W.
  4. No fingerprint scanner, forcing reliance solely on face unlock, which some apps did not support.
  5. Limited 64GB base storage option was considered stingy for a 2019 flagship phone.
  6. 4K video recording is capped at 30fps, lagging behind the 60fps standard of the time.
  7. The large top bezel (forehead) makes the design feel dated compared to newer, hole-punch designs.
  8. Motion Sense (Soli radar) gestures are limited in functionality and can be unreliable.
  9. Front-facing camera was downgraded from the dual-sensor setup on the Pixel 3 to a single, fixed-focus lens.
  10. Originally high, premium price point did not adequately justify the hardware compromises.
